tef Blok, Foreign Minister of The Netherlands, Joins Meeting of UN Officials and Afghan Organizations To Select the First Ever Afghan Youth Representative to The United Nations
Kabul, Afghanistan—June 20, 2018—The Bayat Foundation (www.bayatfoundation.org), Afghanistan’s largest, private, non-profit Health, Education and Social Development Organization, demonstrated its ongoing commitment to building a peaceful and tolerant society, when, on June 19, 2018, at its Bayat Media Center offices, the Foundation hosted an official visit from His Excellency, The Honorable Stef Blok, Foreign Minister of The Netherlands.
Foreign Minister Blok journeyed to The Bayat Media Center to join a panel of experts, including H.E. Tadechi Yamamoto UN Special Representative in Afghanistan, and H.E. Adela Raz, Deputy Minister for Economic Cooperation, tasked with the selection of Afghanistan’s Youth Representative to The United Nations.
Upon their selection, The Afghan Youth Representative to The United Nations, will complete these critical tasks:
The Afghan Youth Representative will meet with young people throughout Afghanistan, to listen to their ideas for building a tolerant, peaceful and forward-looking Afghanistan. The Afghan Youth Representative will also seek input from young people about the proper role of the UN in Afghanistan’s development.
Following the completion of this fact-finding initiative, The Afghan Youth Representative to the United Nations will present their findings at the United Nations in New York, during the first week of October.
“The Government of the Netherlands has been a strong friend to Afghanistan. Our hosting of Foreign Minister Blok of the Netherlands, and other high-level members of the Selection Committee for the Afghan Youth Representative to the United Nations, is one of the many ways the Bayat Foundation is committed to Afghanistan’s progress,” said Dr. Ehsanollah Bayat, the Chairman of The Bayat Foundation.
“The appointment of an Afghan Youth Representative to the United Nations gives young Afghans—who are the hope and future of our country—a powerful, precious opportunity to build a peaceful, tolerant and forward-looking Afghanistan,” Dr. Bayat said.
